Hempy and Proud

That’s right friends, we love hemp and you should too. We’ve spent years researching the TREMENDOUS advantages of hemp and the benefits are never ending! Hemp is high in Omega 3’s and 6’s, has anti-inflammatory properties, a balance of proteins, essential fats, vitamins and enzymes and is a great source for energy. It also improves circulation and is a rare source of GLA.

That being said, it’s easy to see why we would incorporate hemp into all of our products, yes all. We couldn’t be prouder to be on the hemp-train and we know once you’ve tried our products you’ll join the hempy gang too!

There’s only one small problem however, that seemed like it may be trouble in hemp paradise. Some of our RADsters were confiding in us that because they are govt. or military employees they can’t enjoy the goodness that is RAD Soap because of our jolly green friend, hemp. Their supervisors claimed that by using hemp infused products (yes, even body care) that they would test positive for a drug test.

Well RADsters, good ol’ RAD Soap is here to inform you that this is in fact, bologna. Our #1 lady Queen of all soap, Sue has taken the test (after 6 years of using hemp products) and has tested negative for THC.

Our vow to our RADsters is that we would never produce anything we wouldn’t use on ourselves & our loved ones, and Sue took the ultimate test to prove it. So, soap fans rejoice! You can now rest assure that you’re skin (and jobs) are safe in the hands of RAD Soap.

Ta ta for now & Stay rad,

The RAD family

If you’re “Hempy” and you know it clap your hands!

After many years of listening to our customers desire for a liquid soap, and many long hours in our RAD Lab, we have had the Eureka moment. This is a RAD breakthrough product that will open the door to body washes this year, and shampoo hair products soon to follow. As many people are aware, commercial liquid soap can be full of harsh chemicals that strip moisture from your skin leaving behind an often-toxic residue. The same goes for cleaning products you use in your home. Although they may smell great, there are hidden dangers lurking within. In the tradition of RAD Soap, we like to put our own twist on the ordinary.

RAD's Hempstile Liquid Soap

RAD’s Hempstile Liquid Soap

Respecting the properties of the legendary Castile Soap, RAD brings you Hempstile, a biodegradable, all-purpose liquid soap, the first of its kind! RAD Soap adds to the customary blend of Olive Oil a dominant dose of Virgin Hempseed Oil, making this a new category in body care. Hempstile liquid soap is great for sensitive and dry problem skin. This gentle concoction cleans and conditions your skin without stripping away your natural oils, while offering a multi-use product for your home too. We are huge advocates of the Hemp movement, and wanted to create an amazing hemp liquid soap because we value what we do.  Because Hemp seed oil is a plant-based source of Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA), it gives products that contain hemp, unique anti-inflammatory properties not found in other oils. This, added to its antioxidant properties, allows hemp oil to detoxify and clean your skin, as well as help even out skin tone. Are you ready for the rest of the news? Hempstile’s other uses; great for the face, hair, shaving, brushing your teeth (Primarily Peppermint), a nice foot bath, doing your dishes, laundry, and all-purpose cleaning, like your windows, bathrooms, or as a fruit and veggie rinse.

65% Virgin Hemp

You can even use it to groom your beloved dog! RAD’s Hempstile will initially come in 3 carefully chosen scent versions, plus and an unscented version. Lemon Diesel: Grapefruit, Lemongrass & Orange Maui Waui: Kelp & Cucumber Peppermint Ice: Peppermint Harlequin: Unscented Benefits of Virgin Hemp Oil and Olive Oil:

  • Is Hypoallergenic
  • Healing
  • Contains Vitamin A and E
  • Vegetable based Omega 3-6-9
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Contains GLA (gamma linolenic acid)
  • Highly Moisturizing

We are unaware of any product being sold today with the same composition of raw hemp seed oil, and any liquid soap with the strength and gentleness of this hand crafted product. We have been using it in all our homes for months and believe it has reached the standard you would expect from us…hope you love it as much as us!  We do it all with our valued RADsters in mind!

RAD Passes the Amazon River Test!

We have some very adventurous and giving RADsters and we wanted to share this story with you all. Our longest employed RADster is Tony who has been with us from the very beginning of RAD. Tony would have us send products to his mom for the holidays and she and his family have become part of our family. In August Carmen came to visit the RAD Soap Factory and we were excited to see her. As we toured the factory she explained that she was doing a missionary trip down the Amazon and needed some bug spray. While the Hoe Down bug spray is great we needed to bring in the Dirty Dog with its added Neem Oil for a little more POW! Here is a short story in her own words on her trip and just know we love you Carmen and that big fearless and courageous heart of yours:

I want to share my amazing boat medical mission on the Amazon River in Brazil. Along with a doctor and a dentist, there were nine volunteers on this mission. My job was to administer “worm” pills and clothing to the villagers along the river from Manus to Borroso to NaSanhara.

Once at low tide we got stuck on a mud flat! After some maneuvering and two crew in the water, fixing the problem, we finally got to go on. By the end of the trip, the doctors had treated 980 patients.

I used Dirty Dog bug spray (because it has Neem Tree oil) and it worked wonderfully! I shared with the others and left some for the boat crew. I’m coming home with no bites at all! There were many fleas during the day brought in by some patients, and it worked great at night against all the mosquitoes! Thank you RAD!

I’d RADther Lather With a Shuga-Bub

Ok this was a sweet project 2 years in the making! We had tried both salt and sugar scrubs all made with oils….It was a sure way to end in a fall in the shower and what a mess. So as always it had to be the RAD Way! We wanted a sugar scrub that exfoliated, moisturized, lathered and cleaned getting it all done with a single product. Trying to do that was an incredible challenge for a whole host of reasons and trying to do it with all natural products doubled down on the difficulty. So for two years we would try formulas and every try got us closer to success in the infamous words of Thomas Edison ““I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that it won’t work.”. So in March of 2014 we had our Eureka Moment and we had created a new category in the world of body care. The Shuga Bub a body exfolient that would be unlike the status quo in the world of body skin exfolient.

Oh My God it’s Ommegang……Soap!

You know we like a challenge!  So when Brewer Ommegang decided to turn their Abbey Ale and Three Philosophers into a soap…yes soap we were RADtastically excited. Traveling to Cooperstown to see the European styled brewery was a real high for the RAD team and the fact that founder Zak Kerber is a huge Craft Beer advocate and Ommegang is in his top three brews.
Abbey was Ommegang’s first beer and was styled after Dubbels produced by Belgian Trappist monks. A deep, rich and malty ale, Abbey uses several Belgian specialty malts and spices resulting in a very aromatic, flavorful beer.

Abbey Ale Hot Process Soap

Abbey Ale Hot Process Soap

Deep burgundy in color, topped by a dense tan head, Abbey Ale is rich on the palate but with a dry finish. Suitable for cellaring, Abbey develops wonderful caramel, fig, and currant notes with age.

Three Philosophers is a unique blend of a Belgian-style dark ale and Liefmans Kriek, an authentic cherry ale from Belgium. Cherry chestnut in color, it’s opaque but not cloudy with full carbonation topped by a smooth, tan head. Flavors and aromas of roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar, dark fruits, brandied raisins and chocolate, Three Philosophers has notable sweetness with low hop bitterness. The mid-palate shows a soft malt center which gives way to a dry, warm, wine-like finish.  IMG_2215

The complexity of this beer make it a good candidate for ageing gracefully, as spicy sherry and port notes should intensify.

Zoku Because it’s All in the Family!

There used to be two Kingdoms – animal & plants. RAD continues to expand its product line using the ever-promising family of Kingdom #5, known as the mushroom.   We call the newest addition to the RAD family Zoku, a Sino-Japanese term meaning tribe, clan, or family.

This product is the creation of our son Zak.  We introduced it earlier this year at the Herkimer Community College Holiday Event.  It won RAD Soap its second Blue Ribbon honor among 200 plus entries.  Last year, the Blue Ribbon was awarded to RAD’s Chaga body cream.

Because it always about the epidermis we look for the skin wow factor and as company practice we always talk to our suppliers to find out what is new and cutting edge so we can bring it to our most cherished RADsters. Earlier this summer in walks in one of our cherished mushroom harvesters with a haul of goodies and a discussion among friends led to the Birch Polypore.   Like Chaga, it too grows on Birch, living or dead so making a new product using the Birch Polypore was a perfect addition to the RAD family.

Birch Polypore it Gets under Your Skin!

Birch Polypore it Gets under Your Skin!

Birch Polypore’s main claim to fame is that it was found among the possessions of Oetzi, the mummified Stone Age man from 5,300 years ago whose remains were found in 1991 in a glacial ice cave on the border of Italy and Austria. The general consensus is that Oetzi the Iceman used the Birch Polypore against an infection of the intestinal parasite Trichuris trichuria, of which eggs were found among his remains.

But what intrigued us most about this new mushroom was the presence of a compound called Betulinic Acid.  The mushroom extracts and concentrates it making the Birch Polypore a great product for body care.  Betulinic acid causes advantageous apoptosis or programmed cell death. A melanoma study conducted in 1995 showed that Betulinic Acid was toxic to malignant melanoma cells without affecting healthy cells.  Two other studies from 1997 found that certain compounds extracted from Birch Polypore were anti-inflammatory and specifically helped reduce skin inflammation.

Zoku has both raw & unrefined cocoa butter and shea butter which have many nutritive benefits for your skin. The carrier oils we use with our other mushroom products include Virgin hemp and Zoku is no exception but this time we added something new to our arsenal of skin moisturizers – apricot oil.  It absorbs easily into the skin and will Apricot oil is often used in commercial face lotions because of its anti-aging properties. In addition, it’s proven to reduce bumps and red marks on the skin and can be used to treat sunburn, razor burn, eczema and psoriasis.

The newest RAD scent is a complex blend of Botanical scents & Essential Oils of Razor Strope & vanilla, clove, lavender and orange blossom. It’s quickly becoming a favorite at the farmers markets and festivals.

Zoku comes in a Luxurious Body Cream with two big RAD Bars of Soap. One is a body bar and the other is an exfoliating bar made with Israeli Dead Sea Salts.  All Zoku products are available for sale on our website.
